How it works

Three steps. You are in control of every one of them.

  1. Step 1 · Free

Press Scan My Mac and Cachelift looks through your Mac for build output, package caches and unused dependencies. Nothing is changed while it scans.

    Cachelift
Looks for what your developer tools left behind.
    You
Choose the whole Mac, or pick the folders to check.
  2. Step 2 · Free

Every item says what it is, where it lives, how big it is and what happens if you remove it. Low-risk items that regenerate are already ticked. Anything that needs a reinstall is left for you.

    Cachelift
Sorts every item and explains it in plain words.
    You
Tick or untick anything. Skip what you want to keep.
  3. Step 3 · License

Press the button and your selection moves to the Trash, not erased by Cachelift. Disk space is only freed once you empty the Trash, so you still have time to change your mind.

    Cachelift
Moves your selection to the Trash and tells you what moved.
    You
Empty the Trash when you are happy. Until then you can put items back.

What it looks for, and what it leaves alone.

Cachelift sorts everything it finds into groups, so you can see at a glance what is harmless to remove and what needs a second look.

How Cachelift keeps you in control

A cleaner that explains before it acts.

Before anything moves

Review first

You see every item and what it is. Nothing moves until you confirm, and the button says exactly what will happen and how much.

When it moves

Trash, not erased

Selected items go to the Trash, not into thin air. While they are there you can put them back. Disk space comes back when you empty it.

The whole time

Your files stay yours

Scans run on your Mac. Your file names and paths are never sent anywhere. Only your license and update checks go online.

Docker is the one exception to the Trash: Cachelift asks Docker to remove unused images, and Docker deletes them directly. Running containers and volumes are not touched.

FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

Still unsure? Ask support before you buy.

Can I delete Xcode DerivedData?

Yes. DerivedData is build output, so Xcode recreates it on the next build. That first build is slower. Cachelift marks it low risk and selects it for you, and you can still review it before anything moves.

Does Cachelift delete files permanently?

No. Selected items are moved to the Trash, and Cachelift never erases them for you. Disk space is only freed once you empty the Trash. Docker is the one exception: it removes unused images directly, and running containers and volumes are not touched.

Can I get files back?

While items are still in the Trash you can put them back, in Finder or from the Trash page in Cachelift. Once the Trash is emptied, or if macOS handles an item differently, they cannot be recovered, so keep backups of anything important.

Why is node_modules not selected for me?

Reinstalling restores it, but that takes time and needs internet. So Cachelift lists node_modules and similar folders for you to confirm, and never selects them for you.

Does Cachelift send my file names or paths anywhere?

No. Scans run on your Mac. The license check sends your license key and basic details about your Mac so a license can be limited to one Mac, and nothing about your files.

What permissions does it need?

Full Disk Access lets Cachelift scan protected folders such as Downloads. Without it, Cachelift still scans everything else and tells you the scan was limited and how to turn access on.

Which Macs does it run on?

macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple silicon and Intel.

What does the free scan include, and how many Macs can I use?

The scan shows what Cachelift can find and how much space it would free, at no cost. Cleaning needs a license. One license covers one Mac, and you can move it to another Mac by deactivating it first.

Can I get a refund?

All sales are final, so run the free scan first to see what Cachelift finds on your Mac. If you were charged by mistake, contact support and we will fix it.
